Balanitis is an inflammation of the glans penis, affecting mostly adult men, particularly those who have not been circumcised.

Symptoms include itching, pn, redness, swelling, foul-smelling discharge, and discomfort during urination.

Causes

The condition arises from various factors including inadequate hygiene leading to buildup of smegma; irritation from urine or skin irritants like soap, gels, or medicaments; fungal infections such as thrush yeast infection; bacterial infections; sexually transmitted infections STIs; and skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis. Children may also suffer from balanitis due to their developing foreskin.

  2. Circumcision: In cases of recurrent issues, circumcision might be recommed as a preventive measure.

Medication

For children:

  1. Avoid pulling back foreskin: Until it is properly developed and safe to do so.

  2. Hygiene: Regular diaper changes to keep the penis clean and dry, avoiding harsh baby wipes.

Prevention
