Joel B. Eisen is a nationally recognized expert in energy law and policy. He co-authors the widely adopted textbook Energy, Economics and the Environment, and authored an extensive book titled Advanced Introduction to Renewable Energy. His scholarly contributions also encompass numerous books, chapters, treatises, and articles on topics such as electric utility regulation and cleanrenewable energy that have been featured in prestigious journals like Harvard, UCLA, Duke, Notre Dame, George Washington, Utah, Fordham, Illinois, Wake Forest, U.C. Davis, William Mary law schools.
In recognition of his scholarly impact, he was named Richmond Law's inaugural Austin Owen Research Fellow for the years 2013-2018 and Vermont Law School's Distinguished Energy Law Scholar in 2019. His work, Residential Renewable Energy: By Whom?, was acknowledged as one of the top four environmental law articles of 2011. Joel Eisen received the University of Richmond’s prestigious Distinguished Educator award for the academic year 2010-2011 and served as a Fulbright Professor of Law at China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing during spring 2009.
He specializes in several areas including energy law, administrative law, environmental law both clean renewable, policy analysis, climate change, and the laws governing these subjects within China. Prof. Eisen's expertise exts to academic instruction where he teaches courses on Energy Law, Clean Renewable Energy Law, Environmental Law, Environmental Policy Undergraduate Environmental Studies Program, Climate Change Law, Environmental and Energy Law in China, Property.
His engagement with the legal community is also noteworthy; he is involved in various professional memberships that reflect his dedication to law and public service. Additionally, he holds bar admissions across several jurisdictions and has a notable professional career that includes roles such as an attorney and university faculty member at institutions like Vanderbilt University and the University of Richmond School of Law.
